Provide scientific advice and provision of results to Bundaberg Hospital and external clients relating to Haematology, Transfusion, Chemical Pathology, Molecular Diagnostics and Microbiology in accordance with prescribed professional and ethical standards.

Develop skills in Specimen Reception as to be able to accept, validate and register specimens appropriately and to refer specimens to supporting laboratories.

• Demonstrated expertise and ability to apply multidisciplinary scientific judgement in Haematology, Transfusion, Chemical Pathology, Molecular Diagnostics and Microbiology.
• Demonstrated ability to provide technical services in accordance with professional clinical standards, established principles/procedures and comprehensive operation and maintenance of analytical equipment.
• Demonstrated ability to work within a team to contribute to the objectives of the laboratory.
• Demonstrated ability to work in a responsible and efficient manner without supervision.
• Demonstrated experience in the use of a Laboratory Information System such as AUSLAB.
• Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with customers, patients and with members of staff.
• Demonstrated ability to contribute to quality and service improvement activities in accordance with National Association of Testing Authority/International Standardisation Organisation (NATA/ISO) accreditation / certification.

Qualifications, registrations and other requirements

• The successful applicant must hold at least a tertiary degree or equivalent qualification in Medical Laboratory Science from a recognised university or teriary institution.
• Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification
• Whilst this position currently participates in a continuous shift roster, there is a requirement to work a combination of day, afternoon, evening and overnight shifts within each fortnight.
• The candidate will be required to undertake frequent manual handling, bending and lifting.
