About your opportunity:

The Mental Health Service Group is seeking to recruit 2 Transition Clinician's to the Prison Mental Health Service on a permanent full-time basis.

This position works within the Multi-Disciplinary Prison Mental Health Service and across the integrated Community Forensic Mental Health Service.  The position is required to work in both Townsville Men's and Townsville Women's Correctional Centres serviced by the Townsville PMHS team.

This position provides clinical and short-term case management support to clients of the Prison Mental Health Service to achieve the best possible clinical outcomes for this complex client group. This position liaises with all relevant clinical and non-clinical stakeholders within the correctional environment and non-clinical support workers in the community to coordinate a holistic approach to recovery and wellbeing with a particular focus on the transition phase surrounding release from custody.  This role will also conduct initial forensic assessments of new referrals to PMHS.

Skills and experience:

  • Demonstrated knowledge, skills and experience in conducting evidence-based comprehensive mental health and psycho-social assessments, including comprehensive risk assessments and associated intervention plans focusing on transition planning for individuals who are engaged with the criminal justice system.
  • Demonstrated knowledge, skills and experience in providing recovery-oriented case management and service co-ordination for individuals from diverse socio-cultural backgrounds, with a particular focus on Transition Planning.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage an appropriate caseload using effective time management and prioritisation skills, including clinical and non-clinical responsibilities and the maintenance of accurate patient records and documentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to liaise and work effectively in a professional manner with clients and their carers and family, as well as internal and external partner agencies to achieve a client centred approach, utilising negotiation and conflict resolution skills as required.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuing professional development, professional clinical supervision, and working knowledge and application of both organisational and professional Codes of Conduct and Values.
  • Assist in the identification, development, implementation and/or review of clinical practices, procedures and protocols in work areas using the principles of evidence-based practice under the guidance of senior staff.

Generous remuneration package value up to $132,730 p.a. (HP3) or $128,435 p.a. (Nurse Grade 6, Band 1) comprising:

  • Salary range of $2941.70-$4459.00 p.f. (HP3) or
  • Salary range of $4017.60-$4302.00 p.f. (NG6-1)
  • Annual leave with 17.5% loading.
  • 12.75% employer contribution to superannuation.

Requirements:

  • Proof of qualification (Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Psychology or Social Work) and registration or membership (if applicable) with the appropriate registration authority or association.
  • Appointment or eligibility for appointment as an Authorised Mental Health Practitioner under the Mental Health Act 2016 would be highly desirable.
  • This is a Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD) risk role: Hepatitis B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, and Pertussis.
  • Possession of class C drivers' licence.
  • All employees of the MHSG may be required to work in other areas of the Service.
