An opportunity has become available for a Senior Staff Specialist or Staff Specialist (Respiratory Medicine) to join Gold Coast Health (GCH) where the focus of our 10,000-strong team is on providing world-class health care to people living in the Gold Coast, and northern New South Wales region of Australia.

About the role

Provide comprehensive clinical care to patients with respiratory disease across the Gold Coast Hospital and Health Service (GCHHS). It is expected that the applicant would have completed advanced training in the field of Respiratory Medicine and have gained expertise in managing patients with complex respiratory disorders.

In addition, having additional training or fellowship in areas such as Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD) or Cystic Fibrosis (CF) will be advantageous. Managing complex sleep patients both in outpatient and inpatient setting along with sleep studies reporting is highly desirable.

Clinical responsibilities will include in-patient and out-patient care with the existing respiratory physicians, nurse practitioners and clinical nurse consultants in a multidisciplinary environment under the guidance of the Medical Director of Respiratory Medicine. Provide professional leadership in the area of General Respiratory Medicine by providing training, education and supervision of registrars, junior medical staff and other health care providers attached to this department.

Requirements for the role

  • Evidence of vaccination, or be able to be vaccinated against - Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Pertussis and Hepatitis B.
  • Tuberculosis screening - to identify if the tuberculosis vaccination may be required.
  • Declaration of serious discipline history must be disclosed.
  • MBBS or equivalent registrable with the Medical Board of Australia plus FRACP or equivalent acceptable to the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and registrable as a Respiratory and Sleep Medicine specialist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Internationally trained candidates may require an acceptable Comparability Assessment undertaken by the appropriate Australian Specialist Medical College as part of the application process.
  • Relevant qualification/s and registration must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/manager, prior to the commencement of clinical duties.
  • Having a fellowship in Cystic Fibrosis and Sleep Medicine is highly desirable.
  • Having a fellowship in Sleep, Interstitial Lung Diseases or Pulmonary Hypertension is highly desirable.
  • The incumbent will be required to participate in an after-hours and on-call roster for the Respiratory Medicine department.

Salary information

  • Temporary part time (40-60 hours per fortnight)
  • Senior Staff Specialist: Base hourly rate from $117 - $124.05 p.h
  • Staff Specialist: Base hourly rate from $97.84 - $113.65 p.h
  • Up to 12.75% employer superannuation contribution
