Elective Orthopaedic Unit (Ward 9 , 10 & Orthopaedic Short Stay Unit), Woodend Hospital

Staff Nurse, Band 5 – Various hours available

The elective orthopaedic service at Woodend compromises of 2 in-patient wards, a short stay unit, a DoSA unit, out-patients clinics and theatres.  The successful candidate would be rotating between Ward 9, Ward 10 & the Orthopaedic Short Stay Unit.  Primarily we deal with people who are receiving elective procedures such as joint replacements but we also do a wide range of other surgical procedures including hand & arm surgery, foot & ankle surgery, spinal surgery, arthroscopies, cancer surgery and pain management.  The patients are admitted through the DoSA unit and come to the ward after their surgery.

The geographical location we cover extends throughout the whole of Grampian and encompasses Orkney & Shetland.  We also take patients from Highland and Tayside who require specialised procedures.

The wards can be very busy depending on the number of surgical patients coming in which can vary on a day to day basis.   Previous experience in surgical nursing or recent acute hospital experience would be an advantage.

We are therefore looking for a hard working, flexible, enthusiastic and motivated nurse with an interest in surgical nursing & orthopaedics.   The successful candidate should possess excellent organisational & time management skills.  The nursing staff work 12 hour shifts and this would include day & night duty rotation but working hours/patterns can be discussed further at time of interview.  Flexible working patterns will be given consideration.

You are welcome to come and visit us before you apply for this post.  You would be joining a great team.

**Please only apply for this post if you meet the required criteria which includes current NMC UK registration**

Informal inquiries and visits to the unit are welcome.  Please contact SCN Caroline Mutch (01224 556670) or SCN Kirsten Wilson (01224 556677)

Proposed Interview Date: 26/10/2023
