The Hospital: This is Australia's second oldest hospital opening in 1804, and is a major clinical teaching and research centre working closely with the University of Tasmania and other institutions. The hospital provides acute, sub acute, mental health and aged care inpatient and ambulatory services to a population of about 240,000 people and has 550 physical beds, including 460 acute overnight and 90 day beds.
The Role: The department is accredited for 36 months of ACEM training, and offers accredited rotations to anaesthetics, hyperbaric medicine, paediatrics and ICU. Rural hospital posts can also be arranged at the Launceston General Hospital or North West Regional Hospital.
