Your Opportunity:

The Indigenous Hospital Liaison Officer role provides direct support and assistance to both health care professionals and to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander in-patients, families, and Communities. The position is responsible for the delivery of culturally appropriate health care to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients, including supporting accessible and equitable health outcomes, in the context of meeting individual needs. The role includes facilitating a seamless transition between service providers, on behalf of and in consultation with, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The role provides resources and information that enhances the ability of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients to make appropriate health care choices and navigate through the complex health care arena.  The Indigenous Hospital Liaison Officer will:

  • Work collaboratively with CHQ HHS multi-disciplinary teams and other health networks to ensure services provided for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients are culturally appropriate and safe.
  • Promote links and with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander support networks, Child and Youth Community Health Service teams, non-government agencies, and other Hospital and Health Services to strengthen a focus on cultural needs relevant to a continuum of care for patients and their families.
  • Recognise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander family and kinship collective structure as the primary source of support and strength for a child.
