The role
The Senior Director Human Resources and Workplace Health and Safety reports directly to the Executive Director, People, Culture and Planning and provides leadership in developing and executing strategies across all domains of the employee lifecycle, to ensure that North West Health attracts, recruits, and retains the best people, doing their best work, in a safe and inclusive workplace.

You will also: 

  • Collaborate with Executive Director to enhance HR & Workplace Health & Safety portfolio.
  • Lead workforce planning initiatives with a focus on diversity, equity, inclusion and wellbeing.
  • Cultivate a high-performing team aligned with organizational goals.
  • Drive innovation and continuous improvement within HR & WHS.
  • Develop comprehensive strategies aligned with organizational vision.
  • Implement initiatives supporting talent management and retention.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to design fit-for-purpose and cost-effective workforce models.
  • Identify and implement contemporary workforce models.
  • Monitor health & safety performance and address emerging risks

The successful person
Seeking a dynamic leader with a proven track record in managing upwards and providing expert advice on complex challenges and strategic people issues. Must excel in employee relations, recruitment, and workplace well-being matters, navigating within industrial frameworks. Advanced interpersonal skills are essential for building rapport, consulting, and resolving conflicts with stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have led enterprise-wide cultural development programs, fostering innovation in complex environments. Additionally, they should demonstrate a commitment to coaching and enabling team growth, while embodying resilience and a drive for continuous improvement. The North West Hospital and Health Services (NWHHS) is responsible for the public sector health services in the North West region. The NWHHS covers an area of approximately 300,000 square kilometres and services many of the remote communities within North Western Queensland and the Gulf of Carpentaria.
