About you: 

You have demonstrated knowledge and experience in applying Work Health and Safety legislative standards and guidelines relevant to a large complex organisation and an understanding of the Workplace Health and Safety Act 2011, Workers Compensation and Rehabilitation Act 2003 and associated Acts, Regulations, Standards, and policies and knowledge and experience in developing and delivering training packages. You possess well-developed interpersonal and communication skills, evidenced by the ability to undertake projects, support networks, work with stakeholders in a multidisciplinary environment and maintain effective working relationships using appropriate written communication and report writing skills and actively participate in a working environment supporting quality human resource management practices including employment equity, antidiscrimination, occupational health and safety and ethical behaviour.

Your opportunity: 

To contribute to the provision of Work Health and Safety Training resources currently in place by providing Health & Safety training to the health service. Working as a member of the Work Health Safety Team, duties include supporting, contributing to and participating in the training of staff in mandatory and other CHHHS approved Work Health & Safety training course/s, development of safety training packages, the gathering of risk management information, reporting and other workplace risk reduction initiatives.

Your role: 

  • Provide support and recommendations in collaboration with other health care professionals in relation to Work Health & Safety Training.
  • Deliver Work Health & Safety training packages, workshops, and presentations to enhance safety and quality for health service staff, including elected Health & Safety Representatives.
  • Demonstrate commitment to the development of best practice principles and evidence-based practice in the delivery of quality services in line with the Queensland Health objectives.
  • Comply with and utilise procedures, policies, regulations, and standards which impact upon the position, including contemporary human resource management requirements and practices, such as workplace health and safety, equal employment opportunity and anti-discrimination policies.
  • Undertake audit and inspection activities to maintain health and safety management systems in facilities within the Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service or Area.
  • Review or assist others to investigate accidents and incidents in facilities and facilitate the preparation of management reports on these issues.
  • Implement health and safety initiatives, strategies, and programs at facilities to meet Departmental policy and implementation standards to improve overall organisational health, safety, and wellbeing.
