Alberta Health Services in partnership with the University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, is inviting applications from General Adult Psychiatrists with experience of working with patients with concurrent disorder to provide psychiatric services to Edmonton Mental Health Clinics.
Edmonton Mental Health Clinics consist of psychiatrists with different areas of psychiatric specialization including substance use disorder. Our sites provide education and training to medical learners of all levels. The staff at Edmonton Mental Health Clinics are committed to treating patients with Concurrent Disorder in conjunction with Addiction Service Edmonton.

The post is primarily a community focused practice. The position entails providing leadership and direct care for clients served by the Edmonton and Sub-Urban Mental Health Clinics. These teams operate under the Community Mental Health Service and provide service to our most vulnerable adults with complex and chronic mental health needs.

The Psychiatrist will provide psychiatric consultation to suburban clinics.  It is a requirement for this position that the successful applicant participate in the community on-call program which will provide 24/7 psychiatric coverage for the 24/7 Access clinic. All clinics are staffed by multi-disciplinary teams and as part of the team and the physician, as part of the team, will participate in clinical improvement initiatives as well as provide clinical leadership for members of the team.

The successful candidate will be expected to participate in weekly team meetings and provide support to team clinicians as required including in the community. There will be opportunities to work in collaboration with other psychiatrists and inter-disciplinary team members.

It is also the expectation of this position that the successful applicant will participate in quality improvement initiatives within the program.  Clinics are staffed by multi-disciplinary teams and the physician as part of the team will participate in clinical improvement initiatives as well as provide clinical leadership for members of the team.  Remuneration is based on a fee-for service basis as well as sessional payments to cover non-billable activities.
There are opportunities to participate in research within the Division of Community Psychiatry, Department of Psychiatry, Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, University of Alberta. The successful candidate is expected to be actively involved in the training of medical students and residents and as such is expected to apply for a Clinical Academic Colleague Appointment within the Department of Psychiatry, which will be considered a separate process via the University of Alberta.
