The successful candidate will perform specific laboratory duties in the Central Specimen Reception, Microbiology, Molecular and other departments of the laboratory as required, including the processing of specimens relative to the department.  Aditionally, you will comply with National Association of Testing Authority (NATA) and International Standardisation Organisation (ISO) accreditation/certification requirements including performing quality control procedures, assisting with preparation of procedure manuals and completion of relevant statistics.

Key competencies (role specific criteria)

You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following:

  • Demonstrated experience in the interpretation of request forms, data entry and of the correct procedures for specimen processing.
  • High level interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively and work productively in a team environment.
  • Proven ability to follow instructions and work conscientiously and accurately with minimal supervision after careful instruction.
  • Demonstrated experience of the correct procedures for the performance of laboratory tests including processing and setting up techniques within the microbiology and molecular departments.

Qualifications, registrations and other requirements

  • In some circumstances and following consultation, Queensland Health staff may be required to participate in 24 hour shift or on-call arrangements.
  • To be eligible for permanent appointment to Pathology Queensland applicants must provide proof of Australian citizenship or permanent residency. To be eligible for temporary appointment applicants must provide proof that they can legally work in Australia.

Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD) requirements

  • It will be a condition of employment for this role for the employee to be, and remain, vaccinated against one or more of the following vaccine preventable diseases during their employment: Hepatitis A & B, Measles, Mumps, Pertussis, Rubella and Varicella.
  • Additional vaccinations including Japanese Encephalitis and Rabies may also be required for this position.
  • Existing staff that are engaged prior to 1 July 2016 are not subject to this condition of employment unless they apply for a role with VPD requirements that is with a different Queensland Health entity (i.e. one HHS to another HHS, department to a HHS, or HHS to department).
