The Sexual Health Service at the Mackay Community Health Centre is seeking applications for a Registered Nurse to join their team on a temporary basis.

Your opportunity

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides nursing services within the health service settings; and is responsible for a portfolio with a focus on clinical care/leadership, management, education and/or research. The RN provides clinical skills to ensure patient-focused evidence-based nursing care, plans and coordinates the clinical management of patient/client care and supports other nursing and medical staff.

  • The Registered Nurse provides clinical skills and knowledge related to Sexual Health, nursing interventions related to the prevention, treatment, and management of blood borne viruses, and STI's, inclusive of the full spectrum of Sexual and Reproductive health care priorities outlined in the Queensland Health Sexual Health Strategy
  • Assessment, management and treatment in the STI/BBV, transgender, contraception, and unplanned pregnancy domains.
  • You will plan and coordinate the clinical management of client care under the guidance of clinical nurses, nurse practitioners and medical officers.
  • You will work within all relevant legislation, guidelines and procedures related to Sexual Health

About the Team

The Mackay Sexual Health Service is located within the Mackay Community Health Centre, 12-14 Nelson Street, Mackay. This facility also provides services inclusive of Mental Health, Alcohol and Other Drug Services and Breast Screen. The MSHS is located off the courtyard toward the rear of the Mackay Community Health Services building which has entrances from Nelson St. through the main foyer and from Wellington Street through the government car park at the rear.   This Service operates during Monday -Friday between the hours of 0800 – 1630.

The Mackay Sexual Health Service is a Multidisciplinary team comprising Medical Officers, Nurses, Psychologist, Advanced Health Worker and Administrative staff.  The Mackay Sexual Health Service provides services to all male and females over 14 years of age.

Services within the facility include:

  • Screening, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up/contact tracing for sexually transmitted infections (STI's)
  • Provision of contraceptive health services
  • Screening and treatment for Blood Borne viruses
  • Assessment and management of sexual dysfunction
  • Genital dermatology services
  • Transgender services
  • Medical termination of pregnancy services
  • Sexual assault counselling
  • Sexual health and sexual assault education and health promotion
