The Education, Training and Simulation Unit at the Mackay Base Hospital are seeking applications for a Nurse Education (Women's Health Unit) to join their team on a permanent basis.

Your opportunity

The Nurse Educator (Women's Health Unit) is an employee who is a registered nurse who:

  • Is appointed to an advanced practice nursing position; and
  • Demonstrates a specialised clinical expertise and/or specialised skill set. 

Classification may include but is not limited to:

  • Responsibility for explicit professional portfolio content and context expertise.
  • Expertise in the provision of direct care and/or support of systems and/or education and/or professional leadership.
  • Consultation and provision of professional advice.
  • Responsibility for a cohort of staff reporting to the position and/or education and research advice inclusive of the Women's Health Unit and wider HHS midwifery services.
  • Contemporary nurse / midwifery education leadership in the provision of all mandatory training, requisite training for midwifery and gynaecology specialty, ongoing professional education and developing the clinical competencies of less experienced staff necessary to ensure professional standards are maintained and safe, effective, ethical and efficient clinical services are delivered.
  • Collaborative practice as part of the leadership team for Women's Health Unit and wider midwifery services across the whole HHS and external partners for the Mackay community.
  • Well-developed communication skills: interpersonal, verbal, written and computer literacy including programs such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to participate in the Professional Performance & Development plan for staff in conjunction with the nursing /midwifery leadership team.
  • Accountable at an advanced practice level for the design and implementation of education programs, managing educational resources and providing nursing/midwifery expertise relating to staff development for nurses/midwives with Women's Health Unit.

About the Team

Our objective is to provide educational leadership, fostering and developing lifelong learning opportunities and skills assessment that promote and ensure best practice across the MHHS.

The Women's Health Unit has approximately 1500 births per year and is a referral service for rural facilities within the Mackay Hospital and Health Service. The Maternity Unit incorporates a 12-bed funded ward, 6 birth suites, Birthing Centre, Post Graduate MGM, Special Care Nursery, Clinics and Extended Midwifery Practice.
