Medical Practitioner

Australian Veteran Health Services is a unique, multi-disciplinary medical service designed to assist former and current Defence personnel plan their transition from military to civilian life. As a medical service that was established by Veterans for Veterans, we aim to complement established medical and ex-service organisations by assisting with DVA Claims, Permanent Impairment Assessments, Veteran Review Board (VRB) reports and ADF Transition Medicals.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY:

Reporting to Chief Executive Officer and based in Townsville, as a Medical Practitioner you will play a key role in ensuring the provision of quality health care (non-acute) to veterans in person, as well as via telehealth. Your will be part of multi-disciplinary team that is spread across multiple sites.

AVHS is accredited for OEM training, and AFOEM trainees are encouraged to apply.

ABOUT YOU:

You are passionate about supporting veterans during a vulnerable stage of their lives and you’re approachable and trustworthy. With strong interpersonal and communication skills you are able to work well with multiple stakeholders in the delivery of holistic support to the veteran community. You demonstrate continuous learning habits and with an eye for detail, you’ll be across the details and requirements within our context.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive initial and diagnostic assessments, as well as medical examinations.
  • Develop and implement medical plans in accordance with established protocols and guidelines.
  • Preparation, distribution and review of referrals to specialists and imaging companies.
  • Completion of Permanent Impairment Assessments.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to optimise patient care and outcomes.
  • Participate in medical research and contribute to the development of innovative healthcare solutions.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records in compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to all staff as needed. 

Selection Criteria

  • Current general registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). (Essential)
  • Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP) or equivalent. (Essential)
  • 5 years of experience in General Practice.
  • Proficient in medical software and electronic health records.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to function effectively in high-stress environments.
