The successful candidate will undertake diagnostic testing and related duties following Pathology Queensland established accredited protocols and standards within a single or multidisciplinary team in accordance with prescribed professional and ethical standards. In addtion to this, you will independently solve scientific problems regarding equipment, procedures, tasks, assays and apply professional judgement to complex clinical caseload with clinical practice supervision.

Key competencies (role specific criteria)

You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following:

  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to perform simple to complex transfusion investigations.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide scientific advice to laboratory staff and Hospital and Health Service clients on a range of issues pertaining to Transfusion.
  • Ability to efficiently prioritize specimens, perform tests accurately and efficiently without direct supervision and work independently towards the logical solution of scientific and technical problems.
  • Proven ability to work effectively as a member of a team and to communicate effectively with clients, clinical staff and colleagues.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the provision of a client-focussed and cost-effective laboratory service.
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to the quality and service improvement activities in accordance with NATA/ISO accreditation/certification.

Qualifications, registrations and other requirements

  • A relevant degree (Medical Laboratory Science) in science or equivalent from a recognised university or tertiary institution. Degree must have units of Haematology and Transfusion.
  • Availability to work a 24/7 roster including weekends and Public Holidays as required for the efficient running of the PAH Laboratory.
  • Please detail any visa conditions you may have if you are not a permanent resident of Australia.

Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD) requirements

  • It will be a condition of employment for this role for the employee to be, and remain, vaccinated against one or more of the following vaccine preventable diseases during their employment: Hepatitis A & B, Measles, Mumps, Pertussis, Rubella and Varicella.
  • Additional vaccinations including Japanese Encephalitis and Rabies may also be required for this position.
  • Existing staff that are engaged prior to 1 July 2016 are not subject to this condition of employment unless they apply for a role with VPD requirements that is with a different Queensland Health entity (i.e. one HHS to another HHS, department to a HHS, or HHS to department).
