We seek a skilled haematologist ideally with clinical and laboratory qualifications to be part of a dynamic Haematology service.

Royal Hobart Hospital is Tasmania’s largest hospital and major referral centre. As the major clinical teaching and research centre, RHH collaborates with the University of Tasmania and other institutions. The Haematology Department provides comprehensive care to Tasmanian patients with benign and malignant blood disorders. Haematologists work in a multidisciplinary team and supervise advanced trainees and junior doctors. The culture of the unit is highly supportive and focussed on excellent patient care. There is also an active clinical trials unit.

The Role

• Provide a consultant service in clinical and diagnostic haematology, including inpatient and outpatient care in haematology, to public and private patients of the Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH).
• Be involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
• Participate in research and quality improvement activities.

Medical Practitioners (Public Sector) Award

A remuneration package comprising the Agreement base salary, relevant allowances and other entitlements will be negotiatedwith the successful applicant dependent on clinical experience and seniority.

Base salary points range for Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1 at $210,000 through to Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 11 at $288,000 with further salary increments available.

• Please note that access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range $291,472 - $301,349 is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3 as outlined in the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:

• Allowance in lieu of motor vehicle currently set at $27,535 pro rata per annum, paid fortnightly (with CPI indexation on 1 July each year).
• Continuing Professional Development Allowance of $16,000 pro rata per annum pro rata.
• On call allowance % of Base Salary.
• All other allowances as per current Award.
• And subject to approval from the Private Patient Scheme Committee (PPS), 35% of Base salary plus on-call, pro rata) of additional payment will be paid from (PPS). If not admitted to the PPS, a 35% in lieu of PPS of base salary will be paid.

Other Benefits:

• You will have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible.
• You will also have access to accommodation and relocation costs.

Details of Appointment

Fixed term, part-time day work (with on-call), working 51.35 hours per fortnight commencing July 2024 until February 2025.

• Specialist or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia in a relevant specialty
• Relevant postgraduate qualifications to practice in clinical and diagnostic haematology

The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre‑employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:

• Conviction checks in the following areas:
• Crimes of violence
• Sex related offences
• Serious drug offences
• Crimes involving dishonesty
• Disciplinary action in previous employment check
• Masters Degree/PhD in an appropriate field of medicine
