Pro rata remuneration package based on full-time equivalent value of up to $522,648 p.a., comprising base salary range of $97.84 - $124.05 p.h. (L18-L27), recreational leave loading (17.5%), and employer contribution to superannuation (12.75%). Level of appointment is dependent upon experience and advanced qualifications.

About the role
The Townsville Cancer Centre is a tertiary cancer centre located within Townsville University Hospital, the largest non-metropolitan hospital in Australia.  The Cancer Centre is equipped with 5 linear accelerators with Hexapod, 4D cone beam CT and stereotactic brain and body radiotherapy capabilities. We also have a 4DCT simulator, HDR brachytherapy unit for gynaecologic cancers and a superficial unit. We have the only real time transperineal prostate ultrasound tracking system currently installed in Australia.

Australia's first MRI linear accelerator was installed at the Townsville Cancer Centre in 2019.  The successful candidate will be encouraged to participate in MRI linac research projects in conjunction with the international MRI linac consortium.

We are a teaching hospital closely affiliated with the James Cook University School of Medicine and Dentistry and are accredited for 5 radiation oncology registrar training posts. We encourage original research and participation in multicentre trials, with an emphasis on TROG trials. 

This post offers the opportunity to be involved in various tumour sites, as well as research and development of exciting new treatment technology.

Role requirements

  • Qualified as a medical practitioner, qualifications in speciality area and current registration and / or eligible for registration with the Queensland Board of the Medical Board of Australia as a Specialist in Radiation Oncology.
  • The successful applicant should hold a Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologist or a registrable equivalent. However, applicants eligible for Fellowship within the next 12 months will also be considered.
