About the role

  • This newly established Social Work position is based at Caboolture Hospital Emergency Department (ED), within the Metro North Health (MNH) Social Work Services. This role is designed to provide overnight clinical support to vulnerable persons and/or dependents and caregivers. This may include high-risk, complex psychosocial cases including cases involving child protection, significant injury or illness, sudden death, sexual assault, domestic and family violence, behavioural disturbances, homelessness, substance misuse and at-risk adolescents.
  • Triage and deliver high quality social work clinical services as part of the multidisciplinary team to patients of Caboolture Hospital Emergency Department, to optimise the psychosocial outcomes for patients and their families.
  • Ensure efficient social work service delivery and contribute to organisational patient flow strategies.
  • Provide leadership in professional education, practice supervision and mentoring of less experienced staff and students within Emergency Departments and Social Work teams across MNH.
  • Contribute to research and quality improvement initiatives within the Emergency stream and/or MNH Social Work Services.
  • This role will contribute to the evaluation of the after-hours service to, to inform a planned incremental, multiyear approach to extending social work cover to 24/7 across all MNH Emergency Departments (ED).

Ability to apply established ethical principles and practice standards to core social work clinical services and social work tasks

A tertiary degree (or equivalent) qualification in Social work as recognised by the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).

Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification and registration or membership with the appropriate registration authority or association. Certified copies of the required information must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/ manager, prior to the commencement of clinical duties.
