Clinical Nurse Specialist

Your Opportunity:
Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) delivers advanced practice nursing leadership to the Calgary Zone Urban Emergency Departments. The CNS provides an expert clinical nursing opinion on clinical, policy, quality improvement and research topics and acts as a clinical and professional support to Emergency Department Clinical Nurse Educators. In addition, the CNS acts as a consultant and liaison for Emergency Departments other zones, and leads provincial Emergency Department initiatives. The CNS will use expert knowledge, critical thinking and synthesis skills to guide clinical decision making in complex situations. The CNS is a leader, innovator, researcher, and change agent and will demonstrate dedication and commitment to enhancing safety and excellence in patient care through utilization of current research and literature on best/emerging practices. The CNS will draw on multiple sources of knowledge and evidence to manage health problems, translate research into practice, advocate for education to address knowledge gaps and provide leadership to the health care team to improve patient outcomes within Emergency Department Care. The role provides critical connectivity and leadership with respect to Zone participation in the Emergency Strategic Clinical Network and also a number of Connect Care working groups and Committees at a Zone and Provincial level. This role requires strong interpersonal skills and ability to build collaborative and trusting relationships with staff, the management team, physicians and all members of the interdisciplinary team. The successful applicant will have excellent skills in the areas of organization, critical thinking, conflict resolution and advanced problem solving, and demonstrate effective interdisciplinary leadership and change management skills.

Required Qualifications:
Master's degree in Nursing. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Master's Degree in Nursing, or related health care field. Three (3) years current RN experience in adult critical care within the last five (5) years. Proficiency in learning advanced technologies - administrative, clinical, medical. Preferred Qualifications:
Progressive nursing leadership experience within last 3 years. Experience leading accreditation, quality improvement and change management initiatives. Experience with knowledge translation, education and/or nursing research. Experience with the development and/or implementation of evidenced based practice. AHS Alberta Improvement Way certification (equivalent). AHS Prosci Change Management Certification. Completion of leadership related courses within last 3 years. ENC(C) certification.
