The Unit
Townsville Rehabilitation Unit (TRU) s responsible for providing restorative and rehabilitation services to older and younger people in the final stage of their illness or injury recovery phase; to promote independence in activities of daily living that helps regain functional capacity and reduce functional decline.  TRU is a stand-alone unit located on the eastern campus (off site) of the Townsville Hospital and the total number of beds in TRU is forty-five (45), consisting of two independent living units.

Role requirements

  • While not mandatory, a Certificate IV – Allied Health Assistant would be well regarded.  Evidence of any Certificates/Qualifications held are to be provided prior to commencement of duty.
  • Drivers Licence: The position requires the incumbent to operate a class “C” motor vehicle, and an appropriate licence endorsement to operate this type of vehicle is required.  Proof of this endorsement must be provided before commencement of duty.
  • The Townsville Rehabilitation Unit may provide services across a seven-day period. The successful candidate may be required to participate in a seven-day rostering system.

The ideal applicant will be someone who has proven ability and can demonstrate the following:  

  • Clinical Ability
    Ability to apply knowledge in allied health, such as knowledge of health care systems, computer literacy, medical terminology, general medical conditions and basic anatomy. 
    Under supervision, ability to provide a defined range of patient interventions as delegated by the Allied Health Professional..

  • Team Participation/Communication 

    Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively as part of a team with a good understanding of own scope of practice in a complex and demanding work environment.
  • Quality Improvement  
    Under the guidance of an Allied Health Professional, demonstrated ability to contribute to quality improvement activities.
  • Service Provision 
    Ability to monitor and maintain therapy resources and equipment, including repairs and replacement.
