The role
he majority of health care provided to patients in the custodial setting is based within a model of primary health care and predominantly relates to the management of chronic disease, infectious disease, alcohol and drug addiction, mental health services and the provision of acute care as required.

The role includes the key co-ordination functions of complex evidence-based care delivery across a continuum, business and materials management, and education provision for patients and their family /carers and staff. 

All Nurse Practitioners are responsible for the delivery of safe care to prisoners with an opiate addiction, this includes – schedule 8 medication prescribing for the OST program, clinical assessments, and addiction case management. 

The role will be underpinned by the Reducing Barriers to Health and Wellbeing: The Queensland Prison Health and Wellbeing Strategy 2020-2025 and will lead efforts to:

  • Coordinate patient-centred care
  • Develop partnerships
  • Improve patient outcomes
  • Facilitate systems improvement 

Generous remuneration package value up to $178,322 p.a.comprising:

  • Wage rate ranges between $5721.10 - $5973.00 p.f. (NG8) 
  • Annual leave with 17.5% loading
  • 12.75% employer superannuation contribution

Role requirements

  • Mandatory: Master of Nursing Science (Nurse Practitioner) or equivalent certification relevant to the position is mandatory.
    • A Nurse Practitioner will be required to complete THHS credentialing at commencement of their role, it is then a requirement to be completed 3 yearly.
  • Highly Desirable: Possession of a relevant postgraduate qualification in an appropriate field is highly desirable. Such experience may be discipline specific or have a service area focus. Whilst prison craft and AODS/ OST knowledge, experience and exposure will be an advantage and well received, it will not be essential, as training in OST will be provided.
  • Drivers Licence: This position requires the incumbent to operate a class C motor vehicle and an appropriate licence endorsement to operate this vehicle is required. Proof of this endorsement must be provided prior to the commencement of duty
  • Shift Work: Appointees may be required to work weekends to participate in a roster that provides support to clinical staff across 7 days. This position requires the incumbent to work across multiple facilities
  • Queensland Corrective Services Criminal History Check: Applicants are advised that this position works in a Queensland Corrective Services facility and requires employees and volunteers to have a current Queensland Corrective Services criminal history clearance as per the Corrective Services Act 2006.  
  • The applicant ideally will have a working knowledge of a range of software packages used in the clinical and management environment, including the Microsoft Windows, Excel and Power Point.
