Base salary: $33.03 - $34.96 p.h. (OO3).

Workwise, this role will:

  • Be based in the Julia Creek kitchen providing nutritious meals and snacks for the residents of McKinlay Shire Multipurpose Health Service (MPHS) and Meals On Wheels recipients in the community.

The McKinlay Shire Multipurpose Health Service (MPHS) provides rural and remote hospital services including a 7-bed inpatient facility, 2-bed residential aged care facility, emergency department and outpatient department. A multidisciplinary model of care is implemented across the care continuum with inpatient services supported by a Medical Superintendent.

Appointment requirements:

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the provision of catering services including competency in:
  • Food Service Delivery
  • Cooking - Fresh Food Production Services
  • Dietary Requirements
  • Inventory Management
  • Ability to act innovatively and exhibit a high level of independence in the performance of day-to-day duties, while demonstrating conflicts resolution and problem-solving skills.
  • Practical and sound communication skills, both orally and written while actively participating in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of best practice and quality management principles within a food services environment.
  • Demonstrated understanding of infection control procedures, Food Safe and HACCP programs and special dietary needs.

Aged Care pre-employment screening will be conducted for the successful candidate.

VPD risk role - requires evidence of vaccination or immunity to: Hepatitis B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Pertussis, Tuberculosis, COVID-19 and Influenza.

A 3-month period of probation may apply.

As the major administrative and business center of the McKinlay Shire, the town of Julia Creek also supports silver, lead and zinc mining.

Julia Creek sits above the Great Artesian Basin which provides a flowing bore of heated water to the center of town.

McKinlay Shire has a population of approx. 800 people.

The Traditional Owners of the area are the Mitakoodi people.
