Job Advertisement: Clinical Leadership Opportunity in Mental Health

Your Role:
As a pivotal member of our team, you will oversee the delivery of personalized, effective, and timely clinical care to admitted and referred patients. Collaborating closely with the Head of Department (HOD), you will provide clinical strategic leadership to ensure the successful delivery of both admitted and non-admitted services, meeting established clinical indicators.
Our esteemed 56-bed Mental Health unit offers a multidisciplinary approach to mental health care, catering to the diverse needs of our patients across three specialized wards:
  • 25-bed adult mental health ward
  • 16-bed older adult mental health ward
  • 15-bed secure ward
Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide clinical leadership to all caregivers involved in mental health patient care.
  • Optimize the utilization of human and physical resources to ensure the specialty operates efficiently within allocated financial and bed resources.
  • Participate in training and educational activities to ensure compliance with accreditation standards.
  • Work as a Consultant to deliver specialist medical services within a Recovery-oriented framework, in alignment with national mental health service principles.
  • Actively contribute to a supportive team environment and participate in clinical duties, including after-hours and weekend rosters.
  • Adhere to legal requirements outlined in prevailing Mental Health legislation.
  • Ensure timely completion of discharge summaries, coding, and reporting requirements.
  • Participate in the Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) treatment roster.
  • Demonstrate awareness of customs and community expectations when coordinating care for Aboriginal patients.
  • Participate in on-call rosters for consultants.
Qualifications and Requirements:
  • Registration from the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatry or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated substantial clinical experience in managing high-acuity patients within a complex hospital environment.
  • Ability to implement sustainable changes to enhance patient safety and reduce delays in patient management.
