  • Fixed-Term (12 months) Part-Time (30 hours per week).
  • Classification: Staff Specialist Level 4 Year 1-5 (Level election is optional).
  • Remuneration: $273,309.00-$404,722.00 per annum, pro-rata for fractional appointments.

About the role

We are seeking Staff Specialists who have ICU experience, excellent communication skills and a desire to plan and deliver high quality patient centered care. Our Intensivists are required to utilise their advanced knowledge and clinical skills to provide complex and advanced care to critically ill patients.

Within your role you will provide safe, compassionate person-centered care within ICU, ensuring care is delivered in collaboration with patients/families/carers and a multidisciplinary team. you will demonstrate flexibility that meets the changing needs of the patient and of the unit.

Key Responsibilities

Provide supervision, support and education to Intensive Care junior medical staff.

  • Provide Intensive Care Services to patients within the Intensive Care Unit and hospital wards.
  • Provide quality Intensive Care services including clinical leadership and operational management.
  • Complement the clinical, teaching, training and research activities of the Hunter New England Intensive Care Stream.
  • ProvideRapid Response Team service to the patients, staff and visitors on the CMN campus building, and to Mater Mental Health.
  • Participation in the Intensive Care Staff specialist roster including out-of-hour’s roster commitments in a one-in-five on-call rostering pattern.
  • To actively support research within CMN Intensive Care services and as part of Australia and New Zealand Intensive Care Society (ANZICS) Clinical Trials Group (CTG).

What you bring

  • Demonstrated capacity for clinical leadership and willingness to lead and participate in clinical research.
  • Commitment to teaching and supervision of students, trainees and staff including medical, nursing and allied health.
  • Demonstrated competence and experience in providing high quality, compassionate medical care within an Intensive Care Unit.
  • Demonstrated commitment to maintaining personal knowledge and skills by participating in continuing education and professional standards programs.
  • A Primary Medical degree registrable with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and Fellowship of the College of Intensive Care Medicine (CICM).
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively lead the multidisciplinary team whilst demonstrating excellent verbal and written communication skills and proficiency in periods of high activity.
  • Understanding of the principles of clinical governance to promote quality and safety in health care, including experience in audit and incident investigation and commitment to evidence based best practice.
