NHS Highland is proud to host Graduate Entry Medicine students (ScotGEM) in collaboration with the Universities of St Andrews and Dundee.  The Medical Education department is looking for someone to join our team to support ScotGEM Year 2 for the next academic year.

We are looking for an enthusiast to join our tutor team of Generalist Clinical Mentors (GCM) to support the delivery and teach 2nd year students.

The post is NHS Highland Additional Cost of Teaching (ACT) funded and comprises of:

  • 1 day (Tuesday) teaching at the Highland Medical Education Centre in Inverness
  • 1 day (Wednesday) teaching within primary care or equivalent
  • +/- 2 clinical sessions a week if not already employed within primary care in order to facilitate the Wednesday teaching


This post could be a single post holder or split between two.

Full training for the role will be provided.

Educational and administrative support for this role comes from the Highland Medical Education Centre (HMEC) and will include induction and access to useful faculty development opportunities.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay.  This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff.  This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours.  However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.  If you have any questions or concerns please contact the Recruiting Board.
