The role  
In this role, your expertise as an enforcement officer will be crucial to upholding public health regulations. Beyond resilience and confidence in field investigations, you'll be adept at interpreting legislation and guidelines to ensure effective operations. Your duties will encompass planning and conducting compliance inspections and taking decisive enforcement actions, including issuing statutory notices, and collaborating with partners for joint investigations. Building and nurturing robust relationships with both internal team members and external stakeholders, including law enforcement agencies, will be pivotal, fostering collaborative efforts in pursuit of shared goals.

Furthermore, your role will involve the meticulous collection of samples and evidence for investigative purposes, alongside the preparation of comprehensive reports and statements for potential legal proceedings. You'll observe and advise on compliance issues and risks to ensure the Branch stays ahead of emerging technical, legal, and procedural challenges. You'll provide support others in developing enforcement capability, maintain meticulous records, and actively contribute to intelligence gathering initiatives. Embrace the versatility of the role by remaining adaptable to the demands of the day, willingly undertaking any additional tasks as needed to uphold the unit's efficiency and effectiveness.

The successful person
Successful performance in this position necessitates the capability to interpret legislation, regulations, and other guidance materials concerning the functions of the Branch. Familiarity with smoking product supply issues and relevant laws is advantageous. The ideal candidate will exhibit high motivation and adaptability in their work approach and environment, as well as a willingness to engage in cross-program initiatives as directed by management.

Furthermore, effective verbal and written communication skills are essential for engaging with various internal and external stakeholders. The ability to work autonomously and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to achieve objectives is also crucial.

While not mandatory, possessing a relevant qualification in regulation, policing, or environmental health is beneficial. The position may require obtaining a Certificate IV in Government Investigations and meeting the competencies required of Authorised Officers under public health legislation. A valid class C motor vehicle licence is necessary, as the role may involve state-wide travel. Additionally, compliance with vaccination requirements for vaccine preventable diseases outlined in Health Employment Directive No. 01/16 is a condition of employment.
