The Acute Care Team at the Mackay Community Health Centre is seeking applications for a Senior Mental Health Clinician - Crisis Support Space (Health Practitioner or Clinical Nurse Consultant) to join their team on a permanent basis.

Your opportunity

  • To work collaboratively with the emergency department, Acute Care Team, family members, individuals, carers and other multidisciplinary professionals to provide the necessary clinical care and therapeutic environment conducive to the dignity and well-being of consumers and carers in times of crisis.
  • Utilise a high level of knowledge and clinical skill to provide, oversee and maintain a safe space (as an alternative to ED) for consumers in crisis in accordance with relevant standards and legislative requirements consistent with the Community Recovery principals, and the National Standards for Mental Health Services.
  • Utilise a high level of knowledge and clinical skill to provide practical advice, supervision, and support within the multidisciplinary teams to ensure the provision of high quality and safe mental health services to the consumers and families.
  • Support the non-clinical staff / peer workers working in the service.
  • Conduct rapid mental health assessment if needed.
  • The Crisis Support Space consists of 7-day week afternoon shifts.
  • The position reports operationally to the Team Leader Acute Care Team and professionally to the appropriate Discipline Lead.  This role has no staffing or budget responsibilities.

About the Team

Acute Care Services provide a specialised mental health service 24 hours per day, 7 days a week to consumers within the MHHS catchment.  Acute Care Services includes the Mental health Inpatient Unit and the Acute Care Team and improves the mental health outcomes of people with severe mental illness, who have become acutely unwell.  Acute Care Team and the Inpatient Unit focus on the individual in an acute phase of their mental Illness.  Teams such as the Crisis support Space and Step-Up-Step Down are focused on hospital and Emergency Department avoidance, as well as ongoing recovery focused care.
