What we are looking for?

You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following key capabilities, knowledge and experience. Within the context of the responsibilities described above under ‘Your key responsibilities', the ideal applicant will be someone who can demonstrate the following:

  • Experience in the collection of diagnostic samples from a range of patients including children and babies.
  • Demonstrated experience or ability to acquire experience in the correct procedures of pre-analytical processing for the performance of laboratory testing.
  • Proven ability to follow instructions and work conscientiously and accurately with minimal supervision after careful instruction.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively and work productively in a team environment.  
  • Strong attention to detail, ability to focus in a busy, complex environment.
  • Demonstrate a high level of commitment to the principles of quality management and continuous quality improvement.

Mandatory qualifications/professional registration/other requirements

  • This position may be required to work shifts in Maryborough Hospital.
  • The laboratory delivers a 24-hour, 7-day service. In this workplace, all staff are contracted to work any rostered shift within the 24-hour 7-day roster period, including overtime as required. This facilitates the progressive review of staffing and shift arrangements to accommodate changes in workload and service requirements.
  • To be eligible for permanent appointment to Pathology Queensland applicants must provide proof of Australian citizenship or permanent residency. To be eligible for temporary appointment applicants must provide proof that they can legally work in Australia

Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD) requirements

  • It may be a condition of employment for this role for the employee to be, and remain, vaccinated against the following vaccine preventable diseases during their employment: Hepatitis A & B, Measles, Mumps, Pertussis, Rubella and Varicella.
  • Additional vaccinations including Japanese Encephalitis and Rabies may also be required for this position.
  • Existing staff that are engaged prior to 1 July 2016 are not subject to this condition of employment unless they apply for a role with VPD requirements that is with a different Queensland Health entity (i.e. one HHS to another HHS, Department to a HHS, or HHS to Department).
