The role  
The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Program (ATSIHP) aims to bring about quality equitable health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, which are enriched by strong living culture and dignity.

The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Worker position collaborates with the senior health worker of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Program General Health Unit in partnership with the Clinical Nurse.  The team aim to provide Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with cultural safety by promoting and advocating for culturally respectful health care practices.

The role works collaboratively in the delivery and evaluation of effective urban-based primary health care initiatives, aimed at improving the health outcomes of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Employment Term

  • Pemanent full-time (Two positions available)

Generous remuneration package value up to $109,986 p.a.comprising:

  • Salary rates between $2786.60 - $3694.90 p.f. (HWF3)
  • Annual leave with 17.5% loading
  • 12.75% employer superannuation contribution
  • Professional Development allowance + leave

Role requirements   

  • Under s25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991, there is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be Indigenous to the Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Community. 
  • Appointment, and future increment progression, between pay points HWF3.1 to HWF3.5 requires:
    • Certificate IV in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health.  
  • Appointment, and future increment progression, between pay points HWF3.2 to HWF3.7, or HWF3.8 (limited to employees who meet the requirements of HED 04/23) requires:
    • Diploma of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care.
  • Minimum of 12 months experience as a Health Worker or similar role highly desirable.
  • Current First Aide certificate is highly desirable.
  • This position requires the incumbent to operate a class C motor vehicle and appropriate license endorsement to operate this vehicle is required. Proof of this endorsement must be provided prior to the commencement of duty.
