The role  
The Senior Investigations Officer assumes a pivotal role in ensuring adherence to regulatory standards outlined in the Medicines and Poisons Act 2019 and associated legislation. Tasked with planning and executing investigations, they meticulously gather and analyse evidence, engaging with healthcare professionals and potential witnesses to compile comprehensive reports. Upholding ethical and professional practice standards, they liaise with stakeholders, contributing to the maintenance of safe and high-quality services and workplaces.

Furthermore, the role entails providing detailed and timely reports to the management of the Monitored Medicines and Compliance Control Unit (MMCU), offering analysis and recommendations derived from investigative findings. This includes the implementation of regulatory actions and, if necessary, initiation of legal proceedings. Their expertise extends to offering professional guidance and support to other units, Public Health Units, and external regulatory bodies, fostering collaborative relationships and sharing knowledge to uphold regulatory integrity.

In addition to investigative responsibilities, the Senior Investigations Officer actively participates in team development endeavours, contributing to the formulation of business plans, policies, and strategic directives for the unit. They remain committed to continuous professional growth, pursuing opportunities for learning and development to ensure their knowledge remains current and relevant within the evolving regulatory landscape.


The successful person
To excel in this position, familiarity with pertinent legislation, policies, and procedures is essential, alongside the capacity to offer advice, interpret, and apply them effectively in a compliance and investigative context, particularly when addressing intricate and sensitive matters. Demonstrated proficiency in conducting investigations, encompassing the identification and analysis of complex issues, evidence collection, data recording, research, problem-solving, and report drafting, is imperative.

Moreover, possessing knowledge or the ability to acquire it concerning legislation, policies, and procedures, coupled with their practical application within a compliance framework, is advantageous. Encouragement is given for ongoing or completed studies toward a higher qualification in investigation or compliance-related fields, fostering continuous professional development and expertise enhancement.
