We are looking for a Complex Rehab Specialist OT wishing to take their next steps on the career ladder and looking for a new challenge.

You need to be proactive and enthusiastic and will be joining our friendly Acute Medical Team here at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. You will be working alongside the band 7 Complex Rehabilitation Physiotherapist and also have support from senior OT’s.

You should have acute hospital experience and a strong interest in Complex Rehabilitation. You will have the opportunity to work with a wide range of patients who will present with many complex needs throughout their acute hospital stay.

Main duties of the job

As a member of both the integrated rehabilitation service and the multidisciplinary teams on the wards, excellent skills in communication are essential.

You will provide specialist occupational therapy assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients.  Your role will include providing an active contribution to patient flow/SAFER, expediting safe and effective discharges utilising community services to maximum benefit for all.

As a Band 6 therapist you will be supporting and developing rotational Band 5 therapists.  The role also involves supervising unregistered staff and educating students on placement.

There will be opportunities for innovation and an expectation that you will be actively involved in relevant quality improvement projects to develop the Acute Medicine team and Rehabilitation across the wider hospital.

Our friendly Rehabilitation Service offers support through regular supervision, appraisal, training and development opportunities.

You will be expected to contribute to the weekend rota.

Qualifications/training & professional development

Essential criteria
  • B.Sc. in occupational therapy (3 year) or M.Sc. in occupational therapy (2 year) (fast-track qualification with previous degree) or Diploma in occupational therapy (3 year)
  • Health & Care Professions Council registration

Skills, abilities & knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Very good knowledge of human anatomy and physiology, cognitive and perceptual functions
  • Ability to use a wide range of assessment and treatment techniques
  • Committed to life-long learning and continued professional development through post graduate education
  • Organised approach to clinical and managerial work
  • Sound understanding and application of the D2A process
Desirable criteria
  • Computer skills using Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Ability to supervise under-graduate occupational therapists
  • Positive approach to data collection and clinical audit

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Clinical experience as a junior occupational therapist
  • Experience in a variety of clinical areas including speciality of post
