Job overview

We, at Southampton Neonatal Unit, are looking to recruit registered nurses or midwives with a post-registration qualification in neonatal nursing to join our team as a Band 6 Sister/ Charge Nurse 

Southampton Neonatal Unit cares for patients and their families across the South Coast region including the channel islands, providing intensive, high and special care ,as well as having a community outreach team. We host the regional transfer service, SONeT, ensuring that families receive care in the most appropriate hospital, closest to their home. We are able to offer a range of specialities to our patients here in Southampton, including neonatal surgery and cardiac services. 

We feel passionate that families should feel involved in their baby’s care and work in partnership with them. This is reflected in the receipt of the ‘Improving Care Award’ from Bliss to our neonatal unit in 2016.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

 

WHAT YOU’LL DO

 

You will provide a leadership role and be a skilled member of the neonatal team, attending high risk deliveries and in house transfers across the UHS site.

You will support junior staff, new starters and staff undertaking the QIS modules, supervising and mentoring as required.

You will be required to supervise student nurses with an expectation that you will become a  practice assessor

 

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

 

  • A qualified nurse with neonatal experience who has completed the qualified in speciality course.
  • Experience of leading teams
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Able to work under pressure

Evidence of completion of SLIP and Epad training.

Getting to Work

Application can be made for parking on site at UHS or through one of the park and ride schemes. This will be based on specific criteria to determine eligibility for site parking as this can be very limited.  UHS encourages staff to utilise other green methods of getting to work such as cycling or walking where possible. UHS is well connected through bus services to the city centre and other areas.
