We are looking for hardworking, flexible, enthusiastic, and motivated nurses with an interest in Surgical/ Orthopaedic Nursing. The successful candidates should possess excellent organisational & time management skills. The nursing staff work 12 hour shifts and this would include day & night duty rotation depending on the area but working hours/ patterns can be discussed further at time of interview.
The Surgical department consists of several different wards/ areas providing general and specialised nursing care for patients requiring investigation and/ or surgery for a wide range of conditions.
Enablement Ward- Please apply here if you are interested in looking after patients in the new Enablement Ward, 5c. There are flexible hours available to band 5 nurses wanting to help people maintain their independence and engage in meaningful activities whilst waiting to return to their home destination. Interviews for the Enablement Unit will be on the 30th of Novemeber applications will close on the 30th of November.
Ward 6A is our 24-bed emergency admissions ward. This is a busy admissions ward which receives emergency admissions for a wide range of specialties including General Surgery, Vascular and Urology. Ward 5C is our Surgical Day Case Ward and Common Admission Lounge (CAL). This is a busy ward which provides a nurse-led service of patients undergoing day case surgery/investigations. The CAL prepares patients who are undergoing surgery/ investigations which require an inpatient stay. The ward also provides a rotation to Ward 4A. Ward 4C is our busy 29-bed General Surgery ward which provides care for our patients undergoing surgery which requires a longer length of stay. These are usually major colorectal, upper GI and vascular surgery patients. Ward 4C is also are the main stepdown ward for SHDU and ITU patients. Ward 3C is our 16-20 bed Elective Orthopaedic Ward which provides a high standard of nursing care to our patients. Primarily we deal with people who are receiving elective procedures such as joint replacements, but we also do a wide range of other surgical procedures including hand & arm surgery, foot & ankle surgery, spinal surgery, arthroscopies, cancer surgery and pain management. The patients are admitted through the CAL (Common Admission Lounge) and come to the ward after their surgery. Ward 3A is our 30-bed Trauma Unit which provides a high standard of nursing care to our patients. Primarily we deal with a wide range of injuries as result of trauma including hip fractures, long bone fractures, spinal injuries, soft tissue injuries, infections and any other injuries relating to orthopaedics. We also accept the step down of patients belonging to the area from the major trauma centres
Pre-Assessment Unit provides anaesthetic assessment for all adult patients undergoing a procedure which requires a general anaesthetic. All surgical specialities utilise this service and the work is varied on a day-to-day basis. National Treatment Centre- All Ophthalmic services are relocating to a purpose-built National Treatment Centre (NTC-H) in October 2022 which will provide a world class service. The NTC-H will focus on patient centred care using the latest technologies and innovations to provide diagnosis and treatment. The culture of the NTC-H is to ensure staff wellbeing to make it a centre of excellence and provide fantastic opportunities for career progression.
We are looking for a professional to care for patients with a range of eye conditions and injuries. Previous knowledge and experience in Ophthalmology are desirable and advantageous but in-house training can be given.
You should have excellent communication and organisational skills. You are required to be adaptable as it’s a diverse area to work. You will be expected to carry out a range of ophthalmic investigations which require fine motor skills.
