The Role
Seeking of a dedicated Staff Specialist in Gastroenterology to join the Department of Acute Medicine. This role encompasses the oversight of patients in General Gastroenterology, IBD, chronic liver disease, as well as both diagnostic and therapeutic Endoscopy. Proficiency in capsule endoscopy would be highly valued. The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in advancing healthcare at both individual patient and systemic levels.
The successful candidate will deliver specialised diagnosis, treatment, and care for public patients. They will extend a consultative Gastroenterology service to various disciplines and to the hospitals within the Department of Health.
Kindly note that only candidates who are Fellows of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) can be considered for this position.

The Facility Catering to a population of around 116,000, the Department of Health – North West (DoH) operates major sites situated approximately 50km apart. Gastroenterologists offer gastroenterology and Hepatology services at both sites. Anaesthetic services are accessible at both locations. One site hosts a busy general surgical service, while the other focuses mainly on day surgery cases. A dedicated rehabilitation service is housed in a purpose-built ward at MCH, complemented by extensive outpatient services covering various subspecialties. One facility features an eight-bed Intensive Care unit, and onsite support services include pathology, imaging, and pharmacy. The North West Private Hospital, facilitates private practice for numerous specialists in the region. DoH offers a comprehensive undergraduate and graduate clinical training program, maintaining close collaborations with the University of Tasmania through the Rural Clinical School. In this role, you will take on leadership responsibilities and contribute to the delivery of the Undergraduate medical education program.
The Requirements- Specialist or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia in a relevant specialty.
- Current Driver's Licence.
- Sound knowledge of current specialty practice in Gastroenterology and Hepatology.
- Demonstrated ability to provide speciality services as defined by allocated clinical privileges.
- Recent experience in an acute hospital setting.
