Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity for a Consultant Respiratory Paediatrician to join the team of four respiratory paediatricians at Bristol Royal Hospital for Children. This post has arisen due to successful negotiation to expand the consultant team. The post is for 6  months and it is likely that a substantive post will be advertised before the end of this period. The post holder will take a  proportionate share in the consultant of the week attending rota in paediatric respiratory medicine, contribute to cystic fibrosis and respiratory clinics, perform bronchoscopy on elective and emergency lists, and share in the sleep diagnostic service. During attending service weeks, the post holder will see the inpatients under the care of the paediatric respiratory medicine team as well as accepting and assessing referrals from other specialty teams within the hospital and from general paediatric teams from throughout the South West. The applicant must have a clear commitment to the delivery of respiratory paediatrics. 

Main duties of the job

The post holder will take a proportionate share in the consultant of the week attending rota in paediatric respiratory medicine, contribute to cystic fibrosis and respiratory clinics, perform bronchoscopy on elective and emergency lists, and ideally share in the sleep diagnostic service. During attending weeks the post holder will see the inpatients under the care of the paediatric respiratory medicine team as well as accepting and assessing referrals from other specialty teams within the hospital and from general paediatric teams from throughout the South West. The post holder will contribute to the second on call weekend rota, involving ward rounds of specialty patients on Saturday and Sunday, and there is a small contribution to the out of hours acute general paediatric consultant rota.
