The Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department at Aberdeen Maternity Hospital/Aberdeen Royal Infirmary would like to invite candidates to apply for a Gynaecology Consultant role.

This is a Gynaecology post (8.5PA) with general Gynaecology skills and advanced laparoscopic skills to support the general Gynae and endometriosis service.  The candidate should have ATSM is advanced laparoscopic surgery for excision of benign disease or equivalent experience along with a broad Gynae base.  It will be desirable if the candidate has ATSM in Hysteroscopy. This post is designed to allow flexibility in the proposed job plan and support development of special interest.

The Unit is the designated tertiary referral unit for the North East of Scotland and provides a full range of obstetric and gynaecological services. The unit has responsibility for approximately 6000 deliveries and 9000 Gynaecology admissions per annum.

Aberdeen endometriosis centre is a BSGE accredited endometriosis centre providing tertiary services to complex endometriosis patients across the North East of Scotland in a multi-disciplinary set up.  The centre provides training in advanced laparoscopic surgery and undertakes extensive research in endometriosis and menstrual problems including large clinical trials.

Successful candidates will join a strong team of 23 Consultant Obstetricians, Gynaecologists and professorial staff.

You will be fully supported by a thriving and friendly department and will be encouraged to take forward service and academic development.

Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry on the GMC Specialist Register from date of interview. 

Alternatively, applicants should possess a CESR / CESR (CP).    

Applications from doctors with appropriate specialist training and experience who are not listed on the GMC Specialist Register can be considered for a Locum Consultant post (up to 12 months) if no substantive Consultant appointment is made.  Whilst in locum employment, an application to obtain a CESR / CESR (CP) and entry onto the Specialist Register can be made.

Essential qualifications for this post include MRCOG or equivalent.
