About you: 

You are a qualified Health Worker with demonstrated ability to combine your lived experience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander family structures, culture, practices, and protocols with mental health and/or addictions knowledge and understanding of historical practices to deliver culturally responsive MHAOD services. You have evidence of ability to broker culturally secure services by using your cultural expertise and ability to establish community connections to create strong relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the Hospital and Health Service. 

Your opportunity: 

The purpose of the role is to improve health outcomes by ensuring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are engaged and consulted in the development and delivery of person centred culturally safe Mental Health, Alcohol and Other Drug services.

Your role: 

  • Utilise your understanding and lived experience to provide Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, groups, and communities with a culturally informed approach to addressing Mental Health, Alcohol and Other Drug (MHAOD) issues. Performed under direction these activities may include but are not limited to:
  • Person centred cultural support encompassing the values and beliefs of the individual participating in screening assessments, early identification and intervention, counselling, support health promotion and education and training programs.
  • Linking community outreach and primary health/Social and Emotional Wellbeing pathways.
  • Linking with traditional healing practices.
  • Accessing language and interpreting support.
