Avenel Equine Hospital – Surgery Our equine surgical unit is led by registered specialists and highly experienced equine surgeons trained to world best standards. Qualified nursing staff and veterinarians support the surgeons as part of a co-ordinated team.Our operating theatre and anaesthesia recovery area allow us to perform all routine surgical procedures including correction of limb deviations in foals, fracture repair, arthroscopy, tie-back procedure, cryptorchid castration, and reproductive surgery.We completed the development of a state-of-art surgical facility in early 2023. This enables us to now offer a dedicated 24/7 surgical service. We have also completed the build of a 10 horse surgery barn to accommodate our surgical cases, offering effective biosecurity between elective procedures and hospitalised patients.Our relationship with Scone Equine Hospital also means we have the opportunity to draw on the additional resources of a team of equine surgery & medicine specialists who are supported by veterinary anaesthetists, interns and qualified nursing staffThe Culture Our vision is to be the best at patient care and the best place to work.The Role The Head Surgery Nurse position is full time starting before July 2023. You will oversee the daily coordination of the surgery by assisting surgeons and leading nurses and support team members throughout the season. This role includes training and cultivating of junior nurses in surgery to maintain the high level of patient care. You will work closely with other departments at Avenel Equine Hospital and foster those internal working relationships. There is a well-managed after hour requirements.Skills and Experience
Certificate 4 in Veterinary Nursing or higher qualification
Experience in equine surgery
Developing skills in others
Prioritise and work effectively within a team
Composed and approachable
