Health and Safety Specialist

Health and Safety Specialist

The Health and Safety Specialist will implement and maintain the Company’s health and safety programs, procedures, and processes to reduce the frequency and severity of workplace accidents.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee the company’s health and safety activities including implementing policies, procedures, programs to comply with regulatory health and safety requirements
  • Continuously audit current processes, identify gaps; implement effective health and safety solutions
  • Travel to project sites to perform periodic audits and training; ensure and enforce health and safety regulations and requirements
  • Prepare and present periodic health and safety reports, statistics (business cases, statistical analysis)
  • Partner with external safety providers to obtain quality health and safety training and services, and access to personal protective equipment
  • Participate in Joint Health and Safety Committee meetings to identify and address hazards, conduct periodic inspections and make recommendations to management
  • Participate in investigation and case management of workplace injury and incidents
  • Develop periodic health and safety advisories to target specific hazards and participate in emergency planning and responses
  • Coordinate the training requirements for employees; obtain and maintain records of valid certificates and licenses
  • Maintain company’s safety equipment
Qualifications
  • Completion of Occupational Health & Safety Management Certificate
  • Experienced health and safety professional with exposure to and experience within the construction/electrical services and IT industries
  • Working knowledge of all applicable Health and Safety Legislation and Regulations including the Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Experienced in incident and accident investigation and report writing
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Strong organization, planning, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong sense of urgency; ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience in Health and Safety policy writing, and technical writing, an asset
  • Certification as a CRSP (Canadian Registered Safety Professional), a plus
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • G Licence and clear driving abstract with access to own personal vehicle
  • Able and willing to travel to work site across Ontario, and potentially across Canada
  • Able and willing to be available for on-call/emergencies
  • Bilingualism - English and French – verbal and written an asset
