The Audiologist plans, develops, organizes, delivers and evaluates audiology services on an outpatient and community level for children in Northwestern Ontario. The position requires good communication skills, the ability to work collaboratively with other agencies, solid work ethics, and the ability to work as a team member.

The Audiologist is directly accountable to the Director of Developmental Services.

• Persons of First Nations ancestry will be givenpreference (OHRC, Part II, Special Employment)
• Master’s or doctorate degree (Au.D.) in Communication Disorders with a specialization in Audiology
• Member in good standing with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario
• Assistive Devices Program (ADP) Authorizer and dispenser
• Extensive experience working with pediatrics as well as those with Autism, FASD and developmental disabilities
• Experience fitting and dispensing FM systems and hearing aids
• Understanding of Otoacoustic Emission testing and ability to administer and interpret test results
• Ability to conduct Auditory Processing Assessments using a variety of auditory processing test batteries.
• Excellent counselling skills
• Experience working with an interdisciplinary team
• Current valid Driver’s License
• Understanding of the Indigenous culture, First Nation communities and language is a definite asset
• Current clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector screen is required
• The ability to perform the requirements of the position on a regular basis.

• Work with First Nation Communities and leadership to develop capacity to facilitate the delivery of services.
• Participates and supports the design, development and implementation of a Tele-audiology program
• Assess the audiological needs of the children and communities and implement appropriate strategies to address these needs taking into consideration the geographical challenges of the communities and cultural diversity
• Select and perform appropriate test measures in the pediatric population, including behavioural observation audiometry, visual reinforcement audiometry and conditioned play audiometry
• Counsel clients and their families on ways to listen and communicate
• Set up hearing clinics and establish test protocols, hearing aid fitting and dispensing guidelines
• Understanding of Auditory training and rehabilitation programs and implement these programs at the community level
• Supervise and train students, communication disorder assistants, audiometric technicians and hearing aid dispensers
• Maintain contact with manufacturers and suppliers of amplification devices and audiology equipment to ensure equipment is up to date and calibrated and that the devices recommended utilize the most current technology

• Must be willing and able to travel (northern, rural and urban areas)
• Must be willing and able to work flexible hours
• Overtime as required.
