Our dispensary team, offer a patient-centred dispensing service for our busy wards and clinics. As an accuracy checking accredited Pharmacy Technician, you will be responsible for providing a high quality and patient-centred dispensary service to the wards and departments of QEH.

 You will be working with a dynamic team who are always keen to learn and develop new ways of working. You will facilitate the timely supply of inpatient, clinic and discharge medication by co-ordinating workflow and staff and will be responsible for the smooth running of the Dispensary.

By ensuring compliance with our internal, Trust and national policies - you will uphold the high standards of the Pharmacy Department in leading by example and motivating colleagues to develop our dispensary service.

 

 

Main duties of the job

You will work with the Lead Pharmacy Technicians for Dispensary and Ward Based Services planning effectively together to ensure that the daily workload is completed in an efficient and timely manner.

You will develop our management of patient safety by ensuring that all errors, near misses and incidents are reviewed and learning is embedded into practice to prevent re-occurrence.

You will play a part in the continuing professional development and overall performance of staff in the dispensary and work with the Operational Services Manager to develop and improve the dispensary service as part of quality or process improvement projects.

As a member of the Lead Pharmacy Technician Team, you will work with the Pharmacy Operations Services Manager and other Lead Technicians to develop the technical pharmacy service in order to continually improve the service to patients and other members of the QEHKL team. You will support other operational areas and services within the pharmacy department particularly during time of other Lead Pharmacy Technician absence.

Person specification

Qualifications/training and professional development

Essential criteria
  • BTEC/NVQ Level 3 in Pharmaceutical Services or equivalent
  • Accredited checking Technician for final checking of dispensed medicines
Desirable criteria
  • A1 assessor, V1 verifier
  • Patient consultation skills training

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous hospital Pharmacy Technician experience
  • Supervision and managerial experience
  • Dispensing of Clinical trials
  • Team work (inter/intra-departmental)

Skills, abilities, and knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Articulate and numerate
  • Communication skills – oral and written
  • Able to work as part of a team with a flexible approach to duties
