Position Summary

The Charge Tech assists in the technical, operational and quality management of the designated clinical areas. Responsibilities include coordinating the technical operations; leading and supervising staff; ensuring that processes and procedures within the designated clinical areas are performed in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures; and assisting with monitoring the budget for the assigned functional work areas. In addition, the Charge Tech may perform a variety of technical duties.

Shift Rotation/Hours of work: Monday to Friday, Days - 08:00 to 16:00

GR Baker Memorial Hospital is a full care hospital with 27 Acute Care beds, 4 ICU beds and 5 crisis stabilization beds.

• Visiting specialists in Cardiology, Pediatrics, Orthopedics, Plastic Surgery, Urology and Ophthalmology
• Video conferencing for consultations with specialists or physicians in other areas.
• Home and Community Care and Home Support

Qualifications

• Graduation from a recognized program in Medical Laboratory Technology, plus a minimum of three (3) years recent related experience in the designated clinical area, including supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Certification with the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Services (CSMLS).

• Communication: Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with clients, families, the public, medical staff and the members of the interdisciplinary team using, oral written and computer communication means. Demonstrated ability to effectively resolve conflict.
• Critical Thinking: Demonstrated ability to integrate and evaluate pertinent data (from multiple sources) to problem-solve and make decisions effectively. Applies the problem solving process demonstrating critical thinking and decision making skills using a systems approach.
• Teamwork: Demonstrated ability to foster teamwork and a commitment to excellence in the provision of client care.
• Teaching: Ability to teach clients and others both one-on-one and in groups.
• Equipment: Demonstrated computer skills including the use of Windows based programs. Demonstrated data analysis skills including appropriate data analysis and reporting tools. Demonstrated ability in the use of e-mail and word processing. Ability to operate other related equipment as required in the specific practice area.
• Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
