About the role

The Deputy Director of Medical Services supports the RBWH Chief Medical Officer & Director of Medical Services who is the medical professional lead for all medical officers of RBWH.

The role is responsible for providing comprehensive specialist medical administrative leadership and assistance in the resolution of complex clinical, medico legal, ethical and operational challenges to ensure that the medical services provided by the RBWH are delivered to the highest professional and ethical standards. Underpinning this role at all times is the maximisation of clinical effectiveness and consumer-centred care. There is a particular focus on: clinical governance, patient safety, building a quality improvement culture, and accreditation, in addition to digital innovation, medical workforce wellbeing, training, professional development and research.

As a Fellow of the Australasian College of Medical Administrators this role also supports the RBWH CMO & DMS in the supervision of the RBWH Medical Services team including the RACMA accredited senior registrar, trainees and the team's RMO. Additionally the Deputy Director of Medical Services also supports the critical RBWH function of Disaster Management and Business Continuity leadership.

Metro North Hospital and Health Service (MNHHS) has a focus on digital innovation and there are plans for RBWH to develop a Clinical Chief Information Officer - Medical role in the coming years. The Deputy Director of Medical Services will be expected to take a leadership role in digital informatics at RBWH currently, transitioning to working in partnership with the Clinical Chief Information Officer in the future to assure the success of the digital agenda as it pertains to clinical governance and patient safety

About you

  • Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification and registration or membership with the Medical Board of Australia. Certified copies of the required information must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/manager prior to the commencement of clinical duties.
  • Registration or eligible for registration as a Specialist Medical Practitioner with the Medical Board of Australia in Medical Administration.
  • Fellowship of Royal Australian College of Medical Administrators.
  • Certified copies of relevant registration and qualifications must be provided prior to the commencement of duties.
  • The successful applicant must have Scope of Clinical Practice (SoCP) awarded by a Metro North Hospital and Health Service Credentialing and SoCP committee. Information presented for application will be presented to the committee during the selection process, and all appointments are subject to maintenance of SoCP within the CSCF for the facilities in which clinical work is to be undertaken. This process must be completed prior to commencement.
