About The Role:

The Plant Senior Safety Coordinator develops, implements and evaluates risk management policies and programs, trains employees in occupational health and safety procedures, monitors and audits the workplace, and records and investigates incidents to ensure safe and healthy working conditions within the Maintenance, Processing and Geology teams. In addition, this role develops, implements and evaluates programs and policies around the surface ventilation obligations across site including hygiene management. 

Key Duties and Tasks:

  • Ensure that all employees, management, contractors and visitors are aware of their obligations, policies and procedures relating to HSE
  • Provide expert advice to internal stakeholders in relation to legal obligations, policies, systems and procedures
  • Ensure that all relevant reports, documentation and plans are developed, approved and submitted to meet the obligations under the relevant legislation and government policies. 
  • Ensure workplace incidents and injuries are fully investigated and provide recommendations to prevent recurrence with a focus to minimise costs related to workplace injury and workers compensation claims.
  • Assist with the development, implementation and review of HSE policies, procedures and risk management plans. 
  • Ensure that preventative safety plans are designed to control hazards identified through workplace safety audits and other initiatives.
  • Anticipation, recognition, evaluation, communication and control of environmental stressors that may impact on the health and safety or staff, the environment and the community. 
  • Any other duties as required. 

Role Requirements:

  • Recognised qualification in safety related discipline (Post graduate qualifications desirable)
  • Minimum of Applied First Aid qualification (Occupational or other specialist emergency qualifications, desirable)
  • Cert III in Surface Ventilation Technician Course (Desirable)
  • Current Resource Safety Division approved Noise Offices Course (Desirable)
  • Associate Membership of the Australian Institute of Occupational Hygiene (Desirable)
  • Satisfactory NPC clearance (Essential)
  • Valid work visa, permanent residency or Australian citizenship (Essential)

Skills and Experience

WORK KNOWLEDGE:

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a Health and Safety role with a minimum of 2 years exposure to an Gold Mining Processing Operation highly desirable. 
  • Sound experience with handling Health and Safety matters in a Gold Processing environment. 
  • Experience with project work and time management
  • Thorough knowledge of all relevant State and Federal legislation relevant to Mining Operations in Western Australia.
  • Demonstrated understanding of applicable Health and Safety standards and codes or practice. 
  • Emergency Response Team experience (highly desirable)
  • Demonstrated high level of experience in the application of Health and Safety legislation relevant to mining practices
