Alberta Health Services in partnership with the University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, is inviting applications from General Adult Psychiatrists with experience of working with patients with concurrent disorder to provide psychiatric services to Edmonton Mental Health Clinics. 

The post is primarily a community focused practice. The position entails providing leadership and direct care for clients served by the Edmonton and Sub-Urban Mental Health Clinics. These teams operate under the Community Mental Health Service and provide service to our most vulnerable adults with complex and severe psychiatric disorders comorbid with substance abuse including clients on CTO. The successful candidate will be expected to treat and follow up patients on CTO. 


Edmonton Mental Health Clinics consist of psychiatrists with different areas of psychiatric specialization including substance use disorder. Our sites provide education and training to medical learners of all levels. The staff at Edmonton Mental Health Clinics are committed to treating patients with Concurrent Disorder in conjunction with Addiction Service Edmonton.

The new physician will be expected to provide specialist assessments and diagnoses for adults with severe mental illness including those with complex presentations and concurrent disorders within the Edmonton Zone Community Clinics (Assertive Community Treatment Team and or Adult Community Services). The successful candidate will conduct initial assessments, treatment care planning, pharmacological & non-pharmacological management, and follow-ups at the Edmonton Mental Health Clinics. This post requires providing care for patients on CTO. The post holder will work collaboratively with other community services including inpatients services, family doctor practices, and Primary Care Networks within the Edmonton Zone to provide excellent clinical care. The post holder will be expected to participate in weekly multidisciplinary team meetings and provide support to the team clinicians as required. This position offers practice in an exceptional team environment with excellent administrative support.

There are opportunities to participate in research within the Division of Community Psychiatry, Department of Psychiatry, Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, University of Alberta. The successful candidate is expected to be actively involved in the training of medical students and residents and as such is expected to apply for a Clinical Academic Colleague Appointment within the Department of Psychiatry, which will be considered a separate process via the University of Alberta. The successful candidate is expected to participate in the Community on Call program for the Access 24/7 program within the zone.

Compensation: Fee For Service.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate must have or be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta. Preferred candidates will have completed advanced training in General Adult Psychiatry and must have specialist qualifications, such as FRCPC or equivalent. However, candidates in their final year of residency training with less than 3 months to complete their training will be considered. This position is open to sponsorship.
