Reporting to the Team Leader of the Addiction Intensive Day Treatment Program, the incumbent is responsible for the delivery of group programming using appropriate methods of treatment interventions. This position works collaboratively with the other Mental Health and Addictions Programs and their client’s referral agencies and counselors.

Qualifications

• BSW or BA in other related fields (clinical psychology, sociology, criminology).
• Minimum three (3) years experience doing individual, marital and/or group counseling in a recognized social service agency.
• Minimum three (3) years experience in Mental Health and Addictions.

Skills and Abilities:
• Ability to work with people and communicate effectively.
• Ability to assess clients in their total context of needs and capacities, of potential for change, and of opportunities for it to occur.
• Ability to assess Mental Health issues and perform Mental Health assessment.
• Ability to be emphatic with people with substance misuse and co-occurring disorders.
• Ability to physically carry out the duties of this position.
• Ability to work as a member of a team.
• Ability to articulate your personal counseling theory and its theoretical basis.
• Ability to work in cross cultural settings.
• Ability to write discharge and treatment plan summaries.
• Thorough knowledge of the theoretical base and practice of current individual, group and family counseling techniques.
• Knowledge of First Nations Culture and Traditions.
• Thorough knowledge of gender differences and treatment approaches to these differences.
• Familiar with the many theories of substance dependency and their associated lifestyle problems.
