Detailed job description and main responsibilities

We are looking for an experienced primary care nurse ( currently working within primary care at minimum band 8a AfC or direct equivalent level) to deliver asthma reviews as part of the Prescription Alerts for Reliever inhalers in Children (PARC) Project. The post is for 4 hours per week until the end of January 2027. The role will involve undertaking face-to-face asthma reviews and collecting relevant data for children aged 1-17 years at the Clinical Research Facility at University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (UHS), the Wessex Clinical Research Network (CRN) research hubs at the Royal South Hants Hospital, Southampton and the John Pound Centre, Portsmouth and on the CRN research buses across Hampshire. Reviews will be supported by the CRN research delivery team or the UHS research team. Prior experience in undertaking asthma reviews is essential.  During the first month of the post, study-specific and research training will be provided. 

You will be fully supported as part of an experienced research team.  You will be required to travel independently to locations across the region.  The 4 hours per week will be worked flexibly to meet the needs of the study and the participants.

You will have excellent clinical skills within primary care.  Attention to detail is essential as is the ability to manage your time efficiently and effectively.

Qualifications / training required

Essential criteria
  • A Registered Nurse/Midwife/AHP with relevant registration with significant post registration experience
  • Recent experience should have been at least band 7
  • Degree Level Qualification.
  • An ENB: 997/998 or equivalent recognised teaching/mentorship Certificate/qualification
  • Studying or willingness to study to MSc level.

Previous or relevant experience necessary

Essential criteria
  • Recent and significant experience of working in the speciality of clinical research.
  • Evidence of recent experience working at an advanced level e.g. advising and updating clinicians and others involved in patient care/clinical research.
  • Recent evidence of change management in practice.
  • Evidence of post registration professional development.
  • Knowledge of Policy Framework for Health and Social Care Research, International, International Conference on Harmonisation/Good Clinical Practice (ICH/GCP).
Desirable criteria
  • Membership of professional body, i.e. UKCRF Network.
