Fixed, part time vacancy in Darwin and Palmerston

To provide high quality Infectious Diseases and General Medicine specialist care through participation in: inpatients, outpatients and Hospital in the Home clinical services at Royal Darwin and Palmerston Hospital (RDPH). Supervision and teaching of junior staff, continuous quality improvement activities and active involvement in departmental professional development opportunities is an integral part of this role. In addition to clinical service this position will have a specific role providing medical governance support to the Hospital in the Home service and contributing to service and guideline development

Key duties and responsibilities

  • Provide high quality safe inpatient, outpatient and consultative clinical services in General Medicine and Infectious Diseases including Hospital in the Home, both within RDPH and via telephone to other regional hospitals within the Top End and Central Australian Health Services, including after-hours as part of an oncall roster.
  • Provide clinical governance support to Hospital in the Home including service development, input into guidelines and procedures, education to staff and participation in relevant Hospital Committee
  • Provide specialist support, education and information to staff, service providers and community groups as required.

Selection criteria

  • Eligible for specialist medical registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
  • Appropriate specialist qualifications including Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, or equivalent, with sub specialty training in Infectious Diseases.
  • Completed not less than the equivalent of six years of full-time service in medical practice as a staff specialist.
  • Commitment to ensuring equity of access to quality health care and improving health outcomes particularly for Indigenous Australians.
