Senior Veterinary Surgeon

Senior Vet - £60,000 - £80,000

Senior Veterinary Surgeon wanted for our Winlaton, Gateshead practice. Located in a part of the world where home ownership is more accessible, and a higher standard of living is achievable on the salaries we offer our staff. A short distance from the beautiful Northumberland countryside, the coast, and more cosmopolitan centres such as Newcastle for city pleasure, and Durham for a medieval cathedral town, we feel there is something for everyone and any occasion.

THE PRACTICE

We are Vet GPD registered, working towards our RCVS Practice Standards Scheme and are a nurse training practice. Everyone who works here is supported in their professional development. Succession within the practice is also a possibility if you’d like to put down roots. We have every toy you could think of (except endoscopy, Alicam is better!) and a fully comprehensive in house IDEXX lab for the inpatient.

THE WORK

Varied case load, work scope from shoe string budgets to gold standard care

Companion animal (some exotics thrown in for those that way inclined )

15 minute consults

Average of 34 hours/week

No late nights, OOH or bank holidays (9am - 6pm weekdays)

1 in 4 Saturday mornings (2.5hr consult only shift)

Protected free time, lots of breaks and free lunches to keep you going during shifts.

THE PERKS

  • RCVS and VDS fees paid
  • 6 weeks holiday + Public Holidays
  • Pension scheme
  • Free professional mental health support
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Unlimited CPD budget
  • Certificates fully funded, supported and encouraged
  • Birthday leave
  • Staff loyalty bonuses
  • Excellent support staff with designated receptionists (nurses are purely clinically focused)
  • Comprehensive facilities and equipment
  • Flexible working pattern
  • Excellent salary (60k-80k depending on capability)
  • Staff discount (cost price care)
  • Relocation package (up to £595pcm for first 3 months)
  • Visas and sponsorship covered.

YOU

An interest and ability to lead a clinical team is preferred, full leadership training (12 month course) is available if keen. We want you to enjoy working as part of a close team and take the job, but not yourself, seriously. Attitude and work ethic is what we consider of highest importance and the rest will come. Impressive swearing will go in your favour. We judge our applicants based on knowledge and ability rather than time served, as experience can be amplified by a variety of personal experiences.

THE TEAM

We won't mislead you and tell you we are an ordinary, normal practice because that would be misleading! We are firm believers that an excellent work/life balance is most definitely achievable, and we strive to ensure this is protected.

We have a scope of experience in our 3.5 Vet team from recent graduate to Surgery Certificate holder, as well as a sister practice for support. We have a close relationship with our nearby referral hospital.

Weekly Vet meetings are held using our dedicated mobile app to bounce ideas around with the entire Veterinary team when a snap decision needs to be made. Our monthly Microsoft Teams journal club has become the beating heart of our approach to EBVM, enjoyed by clinical and non-clinical team members alike.
