Job Title: Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Manager

Department: HSE Department

Responsible to: Business Development Director.


The Business: My Client are a well established, family run, Main Contractor in the Refurbishment, Fit Out & Maintenance sectors. Main purpose of job: Due to pending retirement of their current HSE Manager, the company need to recruit a new Lead competent person for HSE, ensuring full compliance with current HSE legislation and approved codes of practice and guidance.


Responsibilities

  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of HSE legislation and best practice.
  • Monitor, evaluate and review existing, new and upcoming HSE legislation and ensure that the systems and practices are in place to meet legal compliance.
  • Advise the management team on the implications of current and emerging HSE legislation, including evaluating options, making recommendations and generating action plans to ensure compliance.
  • Develop, co-ordinate, implement and monitor safe working systems and procedures.
  • Work proactively with all staff to establish and maintain systems that promote a culture of safe working practices, leading and managing a culture of health and safety and mitigation of risks.
  • Provide HSE advice, training, guidance and support to all levels within the organisation
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm and leadership across the area of HSE creating a positive culture driving down accidents and raising awareness.
  • Assist in the identification and delivery of employee training needs for the effective management of health, safety and risk.
  • Carry out routine inspections and audits to ensure that HSE procedures are being adhered to across all areas, ensuring appropriate feedback and actions are being taken to mitigate against risk.
  • Undertake reviews of HSE documents, including method statements, risk & COSHH assessments.
  • Set up & chair HSE representative meetings as per statutory requirements.
  • Manage accident and incident data and investigate circumstances and causes of accidents / incidents, including taking necessary steps to prevent a recurrence.
  • Assist with the administration and internal auditing of management systems, for example BSEN 9001 & 14001.
  • Coordinate& liaise with external safety, health & environmental organisations including enforcing authorities as necessary.
