Health & Safety Specialist

An exciting opportunity has arisen within Aldi’s Health and Safety Team, to join in the position of Health and Safety Specialist.

The successful candidates will be responsible for supporting their Manager in implementing Aldi's health and safety strategy across their Stores and RDCs. Areas of responsibility will include:

  • Providing operational support and direction on all matters relating to health & safety, fire safety, food safety and trading law across the Regional Warehouse, Transport, Store Operations, Real Estate and Office and National Department functions.
  • To continually improve Aldi’s Health & Safety Management System; reducing risk and complying with legal obligations in a manner that is practical and proportionate to the requirements of the business.

The successful candidate will champion a positive safety culture across the business and must be comfortable presenting to groups, therefore will need to possess excellent communication, attention to detail, time management and organisation skills.


The successful applicant must be willing to travel when required, as this will form part of their role on a frequent basis, attending different business sites to complete their duties.


Please note this is a predominantly field-based role.

Your New Role

  • Acts as a competent person within their area of responsibility with regards to health & safety, fire safety, food safety and trading law
  • Coordinates the Company’s response to any enforcement interventions within Regions
  • Engages with the Regional teams (Store Operations, Regional Warehouse, Transport, Real Estate, Office functions and National Departments) to ensure health & safety, fire safety, food safety and trading law requirements are properly and fully considered
  • Supports the training/competency requirements for health & safety, fire safety, food safety & trading law related issues
  • Supports the sharing of relevant health & safety, fire safety, food safety and trading law information (from incidents, reports and other monitoring tools) across the business at all levels
  • Liaises third party service providers who deliver health & safety, fire safety, food safety and trading law related services in their Region, including the Primary Authority
  • Liaises with third party service providers including contractors with respect to health, safety and fire risks as required
  • Reviews the implementation of a robust health & safety, fire safety, food safety and trading law performance monitoring regime within their area of responsibility and reports on performance
  • Conducts Store Risk Assessments, Workplace Transport Risk Assessment and Fire Risk Assessments
  • Conducts audits and inspections according to the agreed frequency across various stores and RDCs
  • Undertakes investigations of any major work related incidents (reportable incidents) and advises on any required injury/ harm prevention programmes
  • Advises teams on the investigation of non-reportable incidents to ensure that causes of incidents are identified and acted upon in a proportionate manner
  • Responds to third party and local authority queries in relation to regulatory challenges
  • All applicants must hold a full driving licence and have access to their own vehicle in order to complete field based work

About You

  • NEBOSH General Certificate
  • Due to the travel requirements of the role a driving license is required
  • In-depth and working knowledge and understanding of national legislation and relevant industry standards
  • Significant and recent health and safety experience

  • A skilled investigator/interviewer with the appropriate knowledge of criminal; civil and H&S legislation
  • Commercially astute with the ability to be flexible and also possess appropriate analytical skills with attention to detail
  • Office 365 proficiency (particularly Excel)

  • IOSH Membership
  • CIEH Membership
  • Fire safety qualification
  • Lead auditor qualification
  • Multi-site food retail experience
  • Logistics experience
  • Experience of having conducted Fire Risk Assessments
  • Food safety management system experience
  • Relevant enforcement experience
  • Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health & Safety or related field, or working towards this
